Cordwood - haibun

I’ve been cutting firewood for almost 40 years. After the cordwood is down, after it has been bucked, split and stacked under cover, the slash still needs to be burned. Those branches left in a pile near the stump. Every year I pause a bit longer before setting the fire.

On the severed limbs
tiny blossoms on twig tips
still dreaming of Spring.
